ByteDance the owner of TikTok has accused social networking giant Facebook of plagiarizing and smears even though it has yet to explain this claim.
The company said that it has gone through “complex and unimaginable difficulties” as it operated to become a global company.
“ByteDance has always been committed to becoming a global company. During this process, we have faced all kinds of complex and unimaginable difficulties, including the tense international political environment, collision and conflict of different cultures and plagiarism and smears from competitor Facebook,” the company said in a statement that was posted on its official account on Jinri Toutiao, a news aggregator app it owns.
A year ago TikTok received some criticism from Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook’s CEO. He has accused the app of censoring political protest. The Chinese app has denied these claims.
The state did not talk about the pressures it faces in the US that ByteDance is facing right now as it tries to sell TikTok.
ByteDace has been given 45 days by the U.S. President Donald Trump to arrange a sale of TikTok to Microsoft Corp.
