Google said it will be widening the Google News Showcase programme in India. Google has come together with 30 news publishing organizations, such as national, regional, and local news. The Hindu Group, HT Digital Streams Ltd, Indian Express Group, ABP LIVE, India TV, NDTV, Zee News, Amar Ujala, Deccan Herald, Punjab Kesari, The Telegraph India, IANS (Indo Asian News Service), and ANI, and some of these partners.
This programme will develop the already existing News Showcase deals that have signed with 700 news publications in over a dozen countries, which also contains Germany, Canada, the UK, Australia, Italy, Japan, Brazil, and Argentina. Google will talk to multiple other countries too.
From now on, Google will display content from these partner publishers in committed News Showcase panels on Google News and Discover. More languages along with English and Hindi will be added soon.
The partnered news organisations will also provide readers with accessibility to a restricted amount of paywalled content.
In a blog, Google said that “This feature means readers will have the opportunity to read more of a publisher’s articles than they would otherwise be able to readers’ relationships with publishers and encouraging them to subscribe.”
