Google’s RCS-based messaging has been revealed around the world. It is integrated along with Google’s Messages application and has brought on some upgrades such as chat features, compared to the old SMS text messaging. It will give support to high-quality photos and videos or chat using WiFi or data. Read receipts, share reactions and many other features have also been applied.
Other than the unveiling, Google also talked about the issues with privacy regarding RCS-based messaging. End-to-end encryption has been used on one-to-one RCS conversations. This security measure has also been used on WhatsApp. With this encryption, no one other than the sender or receiver will be able to read the messages.
Beta versions of the end-to-end encryption will be put out this month and will continue on till next year.
In a blog, Google said, “Your eligible conversations will automatically upgrade to be end-to-end encrypted. End-to-end encryption is only available when both you and the person you’re messaging have Messages installed and chat features on. To learn more about this feature, please visit our help centre.”
The feature included in the update comes with the already existing features on Messages by Google as well. Spam protection and video calling are some of the newer features.
