Facebook said that in the next two weeks it will be taking out specific content that includes the phrase “Stop the Steal” from its platform.
In a blog post, the social media platform said, “With continued attempts to organize events against the outcome of the US presidential election that can lead to violence, and use of the term by those involved in Wednesday’s violence in DC, we’re taking this additional step in the lead up to the inauguration.”
A spokesperson from the company said that it will enable posts that distinctly share the “Stop the Steal” phrase to condemn or to discuss neutrally.
The “Stop the Steal” group had been taken out in November as they had provided support for the US President Donald Trump and posted violent rhetoric and false claims of election fraud.
Although, the company did not act the same at the start of the election had faced some backlash this past week as it had not removed posts that encouraged the ongoings of Capitol Hill.
