Ericsson was chosen by KPN in order to develop core elements of its new 5G mobile network after a decision was made to not choose Huawei.
Huawei has been banned in the US as Washington has talked about its worries that if KPN’s 5G backbone had included Huawei equipment, then it would be capable of being spied on by the Chinese government. Huawei has denied these claims by the US.
In April 2019, KPN said that it would be choosing a Western supplier in order to build its core 5G network, which would’ve made it the first European operator to kick out Huawei.
KPN said in a statement that it “will collaborate with Ericsson” in order to execute its core 5G technology.
Details about the finances have yet to be revealed.
